MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

"I have over 15 years' experience as an individual and classroom instructor for students of all ages and skill levels, and have been playing violin and piano for over 20 years. I pursued classical studies at the Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Division and at the Mannes College of Music, and graduated with a BFA in Jazz Performance and with an Education minor from the City College, CUNY. After college, I taught for three years as a public school music teacher for the New York City Board of Education, and, in addition to private tutoring as an independent musician, have enjoyed working in after school programs as a teaching artist.
"My own pedagogical practice integrates instrumental technique, music literacy, ear training, music theory, composition and improvisation into a cohesive whole, with select focuses based on each student's needs, strengths, and interests. I view these fundamental aspects of musicianship as helpful tools, but believe that genuine music production ultimately comes from the heart and so strive to allow the individual interests, goals, and cognitive learning styles of each particular student to guide the content and methodology of my lessons.
"While the experience of music is often magical and mysterious, I believe music making as a practice is a skill that anyone can develop over a period of time by the quite ordinary learning process of taking small achievable steps."
